Rockdale Temple to host Scout Shabbat

Calling all current and past scouts to demonstrate your commitment to the Scout Law and join us to celebrate Scout Shabbat on Friday, February 11, 2022! Our local Jewish Committee on Scouting (JCOS), part of the Boy Scouts of America’s Dan Beard Council, in conjunction with Rockdale Temple, is sponsoring a Scout Shabbat on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Rockdale Temple with services beginning at 6:15pm. The Scout Law states that a Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.  To uphold the last pillar in the Scout law, a scout is reverent, the Jewish Committee on Scouting instituted Scout Shabbat in 2017. Past celebrations have been hosted by Congregation Beth Adam (2017), Wise Temple (2018), Beth Israel Congregation (2019) and Temple Sholom (2020). Due to the pandemic, Scout Shabbat was not held in 2021 so we are happy to have the opportunity to meet again in person to welcome Shabbat and are grateful to Rockdale Temple for hosting. Read more…

Mason Boy Scout gives back by creating a spot for students he wishes he had as a kid

Local Eagle Scout Transforms a Courtyard with a New Outdoor Sensory Path for Local School

Mason, OH – Mason Early Childhood Center has a newly revitalized courtyard with a new outdoor sensory path courtesy of Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America Scout, Adam W., from Troop 750 of Heritage Presbyterian Church in Mason, Ohio with over 1,200 volunteer hours. Ever since Adam helped out with a neighbor’s Eagle Scout project back in 2013 at another Mason school, Adam has wanted to create a project for the schools kids to enjoy. Read more…

Boy Scouts of America National Aviation Scholarship Awarded to Local Scout Explorer

August 4, 2021 – On August 4, 2021, Bella Groh, of Demossville, Kentucky, was awarded a $5,000 National Aviation Exploring Scholarship Award by the Boy Scouts of America’s National Aviation Exploring Committee. She started Scouting several years ago when she heard about the program through the Young Eagles Program. Bella began attending meetings of Dan Beard Council’s Aviation Exploring Post 78, chartered by Sporty’s Aviation, where she was able to examine her interests with a wide variety of guest speakers who are professionals in their field. Dan Beard Council, BSA Welcomes New Chief Development Officer Edward M. Rauen, Jr.!

July 27, 2021 (Cincinnati, OH) – Dan Beard Council is excited to welcome and introduce Edward M. Rauen, Jr. as their new Chief Development Officer. In this role, Edward will be responsible for developing, managing and executing an effective total financial development program to fund the Council, including the identification, cultivation and solicitation of volunteers and donors in our annual campaign, special events, grants and foundations and corporate sponsorships. Edward will also work with Andrew Zahn, Scout Executive/CEO, in identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gifts to support the operating, capital and endowment funds of the Dan Beard Council. Dan Beard Council, BSA Contingent Attends Philmont Scout Ranch

June 8, 2021 (Cincinnati, OH)In June 2021, nine local Scouts completed a high adventure trek as part of the Dan Beard Council, BSA contingent to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron NM. The Council contingent, designed to give youth from smaller troops and crews the opportunity to participate in high adventure opportunities, were comprised of six Scouts and three adults from troops and crews throughout the Dan Beard Council which covers the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. Going the Extra Mile – Local Scout Goes Out of his Way on a Hike to the Top!

June 18, 2021 (Mariemont, Ohio) – A Scout is Helpful, Friendly, Courteous and Kind. Local Dan Beard Council, BSA Scout A.J. Blevins from Troop 149 of the Mariemont Kiwanis in Mariemont, Ohio recently took a Memorial Day weekend family trip with his father, Adam Blevins, to Smokey Mountains National Park. As they were heading up the steep half-mile climb to Clingman’s Dome on their way to the overlook at the top of the mountain, they noticed an elderly gentleman walking at a slow and wobbly pace. Dan Beard Council is Excited About Improvements to Camp Michaels

The Dan Beard Council of the Boy Scouts just received a financial boost from two well-known business leaders. Bill Butler, chairman of Corporex Cos., and Paul Verst, CEO of Verst Logistics, have given a combined $1 million to the local Boy Scouts chapter, through the Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky, according to a release. The funding provides a major boost to the group’s $5 million capital campaign. Butler and Verst, as a result, will help supervise the design and construction of the council’s new Eagle Leadership Lodge at Camp Michaels in Union. The 2,500-square-foot facility will serve as a meeting space for the Scouts as well as a place to hold leadership development courses and other community gatherings for local youth, the release states. Stephen Hightower, President & CEO of Hightowers Petroleum Co. and Rob Portman, US Senator for Ohio, Featured at  Good Scout Award Luncheon Virtual Event!

Rob Portman, United States Senator from Ohio, was the Guest Speaker during the 2021 Virtual Good Scout Award Luncheon hosted by the Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America held on Thursday, March 11, 2021. The master of ceremonies for the luncheon was former WCPO Anchor and current co-host of Cincy Lifestyle, Clyde Gray. Each year, the Good Scout Award is presented at this event to a business or individual who has made a lasting impact in our community over the years. This year, the Dan Beard Council honored Stephen Hightower, President and CEO of Hightowers Petroleum Co. Stephen leads a business enterprise consisting of five national and international businesses, all providing energy solutions. He grew his Ohio-based wholesale fuel supply company into an International energy solutions enterprise covering the entire energy value chain, from petroleum supply to power production. Elder Eagle Scout Project: Raw Material to Finished Product

To say scouting is in their blood would be an understatement. With over 40 years in scouting and almost 50 Eagle Scout projects in which he assisted, it was no surprise that Don Wetterer made sure his three grandsons – Stephen ‘16, Matt ‘19 and Nick ’21 Comarata, were introduced to scouting as soon as they could walk. “While they attended different campouts, summer camps, and meetings with me over the years,” said Wetterer, “I am very proud that they followed through to achieve Eagle Scout, each pushing the other to make sure they got it done.” Read More of Elder Pride article here…

Local Scout Creates Retired American Flag Drop Box at Miami Township Police Department

Local Scout Theo Week, who is a part of Scouts BSA Troop 468 of Trinity United Methodist Church in Milford, Ohio, was thinking about what type of service project he should complete while working towards the rank of Eagle Scout within the Blue Jacket District of the Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America, when he saw a sponsored retired American Flag drop box when traveling. He ran the idea past his Assistant Scoutmaster Mrs. Barringer and his Scoutmaster Rob Salvucci who helped guide him on his project. The box was originally going to be a wooden box but decided that a weatherproof vinyl unit would work nicely. Unsure of where to put the retired American flag drop box, Theo met with Chief Mike Mills of Miami Township Police Department. Chief Mills put Theo in contact with Miami Township Police Department Lieutenant Ted Swain who guided placement to under the overhang beside the main Police Department door. Read more…

Teen Becomes First Female Eagle Scout in Southwest Ohio

Renee Bauer, 18, is a proud member of Scouts BSA, and just more than two years after joining the organization, she is making history as the first female to reach Eagle Scout in southwest Ohio. Bauer joined the organization in 2019. Every Thursday, she drives one hour from Indiana to the suburbs of Cincinnati for the scout meetings.

“A lot of the girls on my scout troop are very nice and I was able to make really quick friends with them and a lot of the merit badges ended up being really fun,” she said. Read the Spectrum News 1 Article here!

Greater Cincinnati teen makes history, becoming one of nation’s first female Eagle Scouts

A Greater Cincinnati teenager made history over the weekend, becoming one of the country’s first female Eagle Scouts. Renee Bauer earned the honor Sunday with Troop 1974, based in West Chester. Renee is among hundreds of young women who will make up the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts across the country. Eagle Scout is the program’s highest rank, Only about 6% of all scouts achieve it. Read the WLWT 5 article here!

Meet the first female Eagle Scout for this Butler County Troop

She wanted to become an Eagle Scout, the highest honor achieved by about 6 percent of Boy Scouts. She accomplished the rare feat when she completed her Eagle Board of Review on Jan. 13, and along the way, became the first female Eagle Scout from the Dan Beard Council that serves about 23,000 families in 12 regional counties, including Butler. ‘An incredible young woman:’ Meet the Tri-State’s first female Eagle Scout

WEST CHESTER, Ohio (FOX19) – Nearly 15,000 Greater Cincinnati boys have earned scouting’s highest honor over the past century. Now, there’s a girl among the ranks. Renee Bauer is the first member from the Tri-State in the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts, accomplishing the rank just two years after she was allowed to join what was previously the Boy Scouts. Seven Scouts from Local Boy Scouts Troop in Greater Cincinnati Awarded Eagle Scout Rank

Continuing a strong legacy in what can only be described as a unique year, Troop 281 of Anderson Hills United Methodist Church awarded seven young men the rank of Eagle this past November. Despite obstacles due to COVID -19 restrictions, the Troop was able to safely conduct the ceremony on November 8, 2020. Although restrictions limited the number of people able to attend in person, in the true spirit of scouting, leaders utilized their creative resources and were able to live stream the event for those that were not able to attend. Visit the Norman Rockwell American Scouting Collection at the Medici Museum of Art

The American Scouting Collection, a new exhibition featuring Rockwell originals as well as BSA-themed works by other artists, is now open to visitors at the Medici Museum of Art in Warren, Ohio. The new exhibition marks the first time in history that all 65 of Rockwell’s Scouting paintings have been displayed at the same place and time with a unique app-guided experience that enables visitors to view the collection one painting at a time using your phone and headphones. The Dan Beard Council, BSA takes an Innovative Approach to Replacing City’s Largest Luncheon Fundraiser

In support of state “Stay-at-home” orders and in an effort to protect the health and safety of the Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky communities, Dan Beard Council, BSA announces the cancellation of the 2020 Good Scout Award Luncheon. The annual fundraiser will be replaced instead with a Stay-At-Home for Scouting Giving Campaign featuring a series of virtual videos that will air over a two-day period on May 1 and 2 in conjunction with a nationwide virtual camporee.

Now in its 32nd year, the Good Scout Award Luncheon is the Dan Beard Council’s largest fundraiser, annually bringing together more than 1,000 community members to support scouting programs for local youth. Click here to read more.

Living Through Coronavirus: Becoming an Eagle Scout during the Shutdown

After dedicating numerous years to their Eagle Scout projects, two members of Troop 974 in the Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America, weren’t about to let the Coronavirus (COVID19) restrictions delay their achievements. So last week, instead of attending a six-person Board of Review in person, Ethan Goudy and Nathan Green held virtual meetings with Scouting representatives. Local Eagle Scout from Dan Beard Council, BSA 3-D Prints Face Mask Ear Guards for Health Care Workers in our Community

An Eagle Scout is a natural born leader, one who models courage, kindness, and character…and whose good example others can’t help but follow. These words ring true especially for local Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout, Anthony Weinmann of Troop 44 chartered by the Bridgetown Middle School PTA in Cincinnati, Ohio. Anthony wanted a way to help others during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and when he saw a Facebook post from a fellow Scout from Canada who was 3-D printing mask ear guards for healthcare workers, he immediately knew he could be doing this as well for healthcare workers locally in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. The 3-D printed plastic ear guards are extremely helpful for healthcare workers who wear their masks hours at a time. The mask ear guards protect their ears from getting sore and are an essential item for them in the recent crisis of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Scouts BSA Troop 974 Celebrates 20th Anniversary Dinner in Conjunction with the 1st Anniversary of sister Troop 1974 while both hosting a Court of Honor

On January 9, 2020, Scouts BSA Troop 974 from West Chester, Ohio, Fort Hamilton District, Dan Beard Council, celebrated their 20th Anniversary Dinner and Court Of Honor in conjunction with their sister Troop 1974, to celebrate their 1st anniversary and Court of Honor. The highlight of the event was 25 of the 69 Troop 974 Eagle Scouts attending, along with the troop founder, Lee Yarberry, and former Scoutmaster, Scott Kunau. To learn more, click here.

Eagle Scout Caleb W. of Troop 990 in West Chester, Ohio Completes his Service Project at FCUMC

Caleb W., a member of BSA Troop 990 in West Chester, Ohio, chose to support Faith Community United Methodist Church (FCUMC) on his Eagle Scout Service Project. The National Council of the Boy Scouts of America Names Roger C. Mosby as New CEO and President

Irving, TX (December 30, 2019) – The National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) named Roger C. Mosby as the organization’s CEO and President after a focused search, which was initiated when former CEO and President Michael B. Surbaugh retired after a tenure of more than four years.

Eagle Scout Does A Good Turn By Returning Lost Ring Found After 35 Years

November 20, 2019 – In June, 1984, David Schaefer lost his high school class ring. Then, in September of 2019, David receives an email through Facebook Messenger from Joe House, who David did not know. Joe, an Eagle Scout from Troop 974 of the West Chester Nazarene Church in West Chester, Ohio, asked David if he lost something and asked about when he graduated his particular high school. David remembered losing his ring and connected with Joe to personally meet him and thank him for returning his lost item. For the story in it’s entirety, click HERE.

Good Scout Award Luncheon Supports Scouting in Our Community

April 4, 2019 – In March, more than 1,000 community leaders gathered in for the annual Dan Beard Council Good Scout Award Luncheon. The Dan Beard Council honored Laura Brunner, President and CEO of The Port and Ed Diller, Partner at Taft, Stettinius & Hollister. The Dan Beard Council serves more than 30,000 boys and girls in Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky with a program of character development and leadership training. 

Road Closure – Information on Getting to Camp

April 2, 2019 – As of Tuesday, April 2, 2019, the bridge to the south of the Cub World entrance is closed. The repairs may not start until summer of 2020. This means that the only option to access Cub World will be by coming down Price Road past Camp Craig; access from Milford is no longer an option. This will affect all Scout and non-Scout groups and events for the foreseeable future, including (but not limited to) Summer Camp, Challenge Camp, Peterloon, Spook-O-Ree, all weekend Reservations, District Camp-O-Rees and Cub-O-Rees, etc. Please make note and make proper travel arrangements on getting to camp. A Family Tradition: For the Moellers of Ohio, it’s Six Brothers, Six Eagle Scouts

January 14, 2019 – Birders call a group of eagles a convocation, a congregation or an aerie. But in the case of Daniel, Tim, Ben, Adam, Sam and Joshua Moeller, a more fitting word is “family. Last month, the two youngest members of the Cincinnati-based Moellers earned the Eagle Scout rank. In doing so, Sam and Joshua became the family’s fifth and sixth Eagle Scouts. That means all six Moeller brothers — whose ages range from 15 to 30 — have achieved Scouting’s highest honor. In doing so, they join an even larger family: the community of more than 2 million Eagle Scouts in BSA history.

Professional Leadership Network Predict To Raise Over $65,000 In Support Of Local Underserved Youth

May 31, 2018 – The Professional Leadership Network (PLN) of Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America hosted the seventh annual Dodgeball Challenge tournament. The proceeds help send under-served local youth to Dan Beard Council’s Challenge Camp, an exciting summer camp program designed to prepare youth to become well-equipped citizens by instilling in them the values of service, leadership and ethics.

Boy Scouts of America National Aviation Scholarship Awarded to Local Scout Explorer

May 29, 2018 – Reagan Alley, of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, was awarded a $5,000 National Aviation Exploring Scholarship Award by the Boy Scouts of America’s National Aviation Exploring Committee. Two years ago, Reagan joined the Aviation Explorer post of the Dan Beard Council, which he found was a great way to stay in Scouting and focus on his career path.

Dan Beard Council Good Scout Award Luncheon Raises $500,0000

March 14, 2018 – More than 1,100 people gathered for the annual Dan Beard Council Good Scout Award Luncheon to celebrate the accomplishments of Chris Cole and raise $500,000 for Boy Scout programs.

Cincinnati Regional Chamber To Honor John F. Steele Sr. With Great Living Cincinnatian Award

November 21, 2017 –Strategic advisor for Hilltop Basic Resources, Inc. and long-time Scouter, John F. Steele Sr., will be honored as one of four recipients in the 2018 class of Great Living Cincinnatians. The Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber has presented the Great Living Cincinnatian award annually since 1967.

June 5, 2017 – The Professional Leadership Network (PLN) of Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America will host the seventh annual Dodgeball Challenge tournament in support of an exciting summer camp program called Challenge Camp.

July, 2017 – Eight Scouts, ages 13 and 14, and a leader from the Tzofim Israeli Scout Delegation visited the Greater Cincinnati area and Camp Friedlander for two weeks.

Cincinnati Regional Chamber To Honor William P. Butler With Great Living Cincinnatian Award

December 1, 2016 –CEO of Corporex Cos., and Dan Beard Council board member, William P. Butler, will be honored as one of four recipients in the 2017 class of Great Living Cincinnatians. The Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber has presented the Great Living Cincinnatian award annually since 1967. The four honorees will be installed at the 2017 chamber annual dinner at the Duke Energy Center on Feb. 16, 2017
