Gary “Doc” Huffman to be Honored with Top Boy Scout Volunteer Award
CINCINNATI, OH; November 15, 2016—Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ohio National Financial Services, Gary “Doc” Huffman, will be honored with the prestigious Silver Beaver award at the Boy Scout of America, Dan Beard Council board meeting on Tuesday, November 15th.
The Silver Beaver Award recognizes individuals of outstanding character and those who embody the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. The Silver Beaver Award was introduced in 1931 and is a council‐level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America. Recipients of this award are registered Scout volunteers who have made an impact on the lives of local youth through service given to the council. Mr. Huffman was chosen as a recipient in recognition of his selfless, considerate, and noble service to local Scouting youth and events. Doc has helped to serve on the Board of Directors of the Dan Beard Council for over 10 years and has had significant impact on the Council’s Eagle Court of Honor event, which recognizes local Eagle Scouts each year. The Silver Beaver recognition is the highest volunteer achievement a local volunteer can receive from the Dan Beard Council.
Doc started his career in the insurance business in 1975 as an agent with Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company and later as a general agent and a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. In 1994, Doc joined Mass Mutual Insurance Company as Senior Vice President of Marketing. In 1999, he joined Union Central Life Company as Senior Vice President of Individual Insurance and was elected President and Chief Executive Officer of Union Central Life Insurance Company in May 2008.
A Kentucky native, Doc graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Business Administration. He is an active member of various industry groups and the community, currently serving as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of The American College and Co-Chair of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Foundation Board. Additionally, he is President of the Board of Trustees of the Cincinnati Opera and board member of Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America. He is also the 2017 United Way of Greater Cincinnati Chairperson. He sits on the board of trustees of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Doc is a former chairman of LIMRA.
