Planned Giving Dan Beard Council

Leave a Legacy

Planned giving is a way to support charitable organizations, like the Dan Beard Council, BSA, by making gifts using your estate. This could include a gift in your will, or by designating your retirement plan assets as a charitable gift. This type of support requires some planning but may offer tax benefits. Most take effect in the future as a final way to leave your legacy (and therefore do not affect today’s finances). Your commitment ensures that Scouting can fulfill its mission  for years to come. By making a planned gift to our council, you join a dedicated group of supporters who value those we serve and the work we do. We recognize these thoughtful people in the Second Century Society.

Types of Gifts

A cash gift is a simple and easy way to make an immediate impact on our mission. You benefit by being able to make a charitable income tax deduction.

Donating appreciated securities, including stocks and bonds, is an easy and tax-effective way to make a gift to the DBC. You can avoid paying capital gains tax on the sale of appreciated stock and receive a charitable income tax deduction.

If you have a life insurance policy that has outlasted its original purpose, consider making a gift of your insurance policy. For example, you may have purchased a policy to provide for minor children and they are now financially independent adults.

How to Give

A Gift from Your Will

You designate the DBC as the beneficiary of your asset by will, trust or beneficiary designation form.

IRA Rollover

If you are 70.5 or older, you can use your IRA to make a qualified charitable distribution. It may also satisfy your RMD, if applicable.

Charitable Gift Annuity

You may transfer cash or your appreciated property to the DBC in exchange for our promise to pay you fixed payments (with rates based on your age) for the rest of your life.

Charitable Lead Trust

You fund a Trust that makes gifts to us for a number of years. Your family receives the trust remainder at substantial tax savings.

Where to Start
