Joseph Eugene Orndorff

On December 22, 1952, Joe (almost 14) became an Eagle Scout. Since that time, he has been faithfully guided by the Scout Oath and Law, which he repeats each morning. Joe learned a valuable life lesson during his first summer camp after he complained to the Camp Director, a good friend of his Eagle Scout father, that poorly washed plates were used each morning. Joe spent the rest of the summer washing dishes but within a few summers worked his way up to become the Camp’s Aquatics Director. The lesson: if you complain, be prepared to become part of the solution.

While attending summer camp as a youth, Joeparticipated in a camp-based program that taught Scouts how to start a fire-by-friction and become better Scouts. Almost 75 years later, Dan Saxby and Joe created the Friedlander CAMPCRAFTER program designed to teach fire-by-friction skills, increase camp attendance and promote the timeless values of Scouting. Under the leadership of Percy Bacu and Lauren Metzler, over 500 Scouts have already participated in the three-year-old CAMPCRAFTER program.

Joe is the father and grandfather of Eagle Scouts, Tim and Trey, and a daughter, Annette, who earned her Girl Scout Gold award while her mother served as troop leader.

Joe and his wife, Jo Anne, co-founded SCRIP-SAFE^®Security Products which printed college academic transcripts and diplomas. Later, the company created and deployed new technologies that offered secure electronic delivery of transcripts and on-site printing of customized diplomas.

Joe earned his B.A. at Millikin University, his M.A. at Eastern Illinois University and his A.B.D at Miami University. Orndorff also funds an Eagle Scout Scholarship at Millikin in honor of his father, an Eagle and Silver Beaver.
