Council service projects are community-focused initiatives organized to instill values of citizenship, leadership, and service in youth members. Through hands-on involvement, Scouts develop essential life skills while making a positive impact on their communities.
Only through continued service can we ensure that the beautiful and natural areas of the Dan Beard Scout Reservation and Camp Michaels are preserved for future youth. Camp Conservation Days are an great way for Scouts to earn service hours while working to conserve our camp properties. These days of organized projects include tree-planting, erosion control, honeysuckle removal, trail maintenance, and other conservation projects.
Groups that participate learn about lake ecosystems and help create a healthy environment for the plants and animals that share our camps. This event promotes a sense of ownership in our camps for all those who participate. Each group that participates will earn a Conservation Ribbon and Scouts can earn service hours for rank advancement, school requirements, award requirements, and more.
Help other people at all times. It’s not enough to recite those words from the Scout Oath. We are called to put them into action. In that spirit, the Dan Beard Council partnered with the Freestore Foodbank to launch Scouting for Food, a Council-wide service project that collected food for those in need across the Dan Beard Council service area. This event takes place during the spring.
Answering this call for help could not be more urgent. According to the Freestore Foodbank, one in seven of our neighbors in the Tri-State area is at risk of hunger.
