Camp Michaels

Camp Michaels located near Union, Kentucky, has been welcoming Scouts from Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio since 1944. Throughout its history, the camp’s rustic charm has made it a favorite spot for countless unit camp-outs and events. Additionally, Camp Michaels has been the Dan Beard Council’s primary home for the National Youth Leadership Program (NYLT).

Eagle’s Lodge

Eagle’s Lodge is the centerpiece of Camp Michaels and features many amenities to support your event. It features a 2,500 square foot great hall for large gatherings, a fully equipped kitchen, banquet furniture, and full Audio/Video support. Eagle’s Lodge is perfect for your unit functions such as a Blue & Gold banquets, Pinewood Derbies, or Courts of Honor. The north wall of the Eagle Lodge can be opened to create an indoor/outdoor setting. The terrace will overlook the fields and Gunpowder Creek allowing for a spectacular view.

Eagle’s Lodge is also available for rentals to other organizations. Perfect for a company retreat, church or school outing, or private function, Eagle’ Lodge can host your event in a unique setting away from the distractions of a city venue, while still offering modern amenities and easy access.

Yurts

Camp Michaels has two yurts – circular tent-like structures – available for an overnight stay. The yurts offer a unique camping opportunity for your troop, pack, or other group. Each yurt features 12 beds with mattresses, a wood stove for heat, and a nearby campfire ring. The yurts are located next to a sizable field that allows for other tents to be set up in close proximity and are within easy walking distance of the Eagle’s Lodge.

Drees Amphitheater

Drees amphitheater offers a natural stage and seating for 300 people. A large fire ring is located on the stage, making this perfect for a traditional campfire program or other ceremony. Lighting is available to illuminate the stage so the space can be used any time of day.

Verst Family Chapel

The Verst Family Chapel is an intimate space next to the Gunpowder Creek. Recently renovated with new seating, the chapel is the perfect space for your Scout’s Own Service, or just a time of reflection. With permanent seating for 50 people, and room for additional camp chairs, this space can serve many needs.

Program Shelters

Camp Michaels offers two shelters that can be used by Scout units or other groups.

Shelter 3 is next to Gilwell Field and can be a good space for an outdoor kitchen or program area if you are camping in the Gilwell Campsites.

Shelter 4 is a large shelter next to the Williams Lodge. It has seating for 50 people and offers amenities such as electricity and lighting, ceiling fans for cooling, and two charcoal grills. It is a great space for your pack or troop cookout or other activity.

Williams Lodge

Williams Lodge is one of the original structures at Camp Michaels and offers a rustic space for small meetings or trainings. There is electricity and a large stone fireplace.

Camp Sites

Gilwell Field Campsites
The Gilwell Field sites are situated around Gilwell Field next to Gunpowder Creek. This layout makes them uniquely situated to support patrol style camping. The individual sites are separate, but within eye-line and earshot of the central field. Troops can let patrols set up in the individual sites with a central area for Troop leadership to provide supervision.

Big Turtle Field Campsites
The Turtle Fields are large open spaces along Gunpowder Creek and close to Eagle’s Lodge. These fields can be rented for unit programs and can be used for campsites or other activities. These sites are also close to the shower house.

Shower House
A new addition to Camp Michaels is the shower house. It offers six private spaces, each offering a toilet, sink, and shower. Open from April to October, this new facility makes camping at Camp Michaels much more comfortable.
