2025 Eagle Project of the Year Awarded

Christopher T. - Troop 194

We are pleased to announce that the Dan Beard Council Eagle Scout Project of the Year was awarded to Christopher T. of Troop 194 out of Mason. Christopher built an Oregonia Educational Garden along the little Miami Trail with a focus on plants that were used by Native Americans.

This 1,716 square-foot garden is approximately 300 foot long and consists of 18 different plants. Eight gravel paths divide the area into nine major sections with a mulch barrier in each, dividing it further into 18 total sections. Every two sections is equipped with a sign explaining what the plant is and how it was used by Native Americans. This project is meant to reinvigorate a part of the trail that is underused all while educating visitors about the plants Native Americans used in day-to-day life.

The plants in the garden are:

  • Majoram
  • Lemon Thyme
  • Rattlesnake Mestes
  • Foxglove
  • Butterfly Weed
  • Chickory & Joe Rye Weeds
  • Prairie Doc
  • Chamomile
  • Aster
  • Lemon Balm
  • Purple Cornflower
  • Ironweed
  • Yarrow
  • Stiff Goldenrop
  • Bee Balm (x2)
  • Catnip
  • Elderberry
