What is Kodiak?

Kodiak is two things at once

1) A Local High Adventure Trek

2) Youth Leadership Training

Kodiak teaches leadership skills in a fun way that is internalized by the Venturers and Scouts.  This is accomplished as an integral part of a 6-day trek (2 three-day weekends).  In other words, come for the trek, come away a better leader!

The Kodiak syllabus focuses on 5 aspects of leaderships called commissions.  These are:

Effective Teams

Values/Vision

Communications

Decision Making

Planning

Who may attend?

Kodiak is open to Venture youth, male or female, age 14 -20 and to Boy Scout youth age 14-17.   A BSA Class 3 Physical is required to participate in this course.

Why Kodiak?

Leadership and Service to others are two key aspects of the Venturing program.  Combining these two tenants leads to the concept of “the Servant Leader.”  While this may seem an oxymoron, servant leadership is a powerful concept and teaches that the leader works with and through a team to accomplish the mission.  Rather than just talking about Leadership, the Kodiak course, teaches useable, relevant leadership skills that every teen can use.
