Career Fields
Exploring prepares tomorrow’s workforce through an in-depth exploration of an industry and/or career. From health care, to aviation, to construction, Exploring is designed to provide hands-on experience for students ages 14-21.
As the Dan Beard Council’s workforce development program, Exploring’s purpose is to provide experiences that help young people mature and prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. Local community organizations initiate a specific Explorer Post by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in their community. The result is a program of activities that helps young people pursue their career interests, increase their knowledge of career choices, and develop workforce skills personal responsibility.
Most Career Exploring programs align with the high school calendar and begin in the fall, while some also offer summer activities, conferences, internships and other events. Most meet once or twice a month throughout the school year.
