Boy Scouts of America National Aviation Scholarship Awarded to Local Scout Explorer

CINCINNATI, OH – May 29, 2018 – On May 29, 2018, Reagan Alley, of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, was awarded a $5,000 National Aviation Exploring Scholarship Award by the Boy Scouts of America’s National Aviation Exploring Committee. He began Boy Scouts as a Tiger Scout and continued up the rank of Eagle Scout in 2015. Two years ago, Reagan joined the Aviation Explorer post of the Dan Beard Council, which he found was a great way to stay in Scouting and focus on his career path. One of Reagan’s first merit badges was the Aviation merit badge, and he was able to teach the merit badge this past fall with the Explorer group at Clermont County Airport. This past year, Reagan served as the VP of Programming, which is responsible for setting up speakers and visits for his post. He plans on attending UC Clermont’s Aviation program in the fall and plans on becoming a professional pilot. This scholarship helps Reagan fund the flight hours required for his degree.

Exploring is a unique career exploration program for young men and women ages 10 – 20. The program provides students with an opportunity to learn about a wide variety of career fields and network with professionals already working in those fields. They get hands-on experience to determine whether or not a particular career field is right for them. The students develop valuable networking contacts with professionals working in selected career fields, and they get to know other youth with the same interests and aspirations. Exploring is the first step in identifying career possibilities while having fun in an exciting and informal environment.

The Boy Scouts of America’s National Aviation Exploring Committee awards individual scholarships between $5,000 and $10,000 annually. These scholarships are awarded to recognize excellence in the field of aviation. The sponsors that provide the scholarships are committed to aviation’s future leadership. An Explorer that applies needs to show that they can successfully complete the aviation career educational activity for which they are requesting the scholarship and show their involvement in life skills, citizenship, leadership and character education experiences that add to the quality of life.
