MEET OUR 2020 LEADERSHIP

Scouting in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky is strong and vibrant! The Dan Beard Council serves on average over 20,000 youth and families in our community each year. And while this past year has been one of constant uncertainty, we are proud to state that we have been able to resiliently adapt to ensure that Scouting programs continue throughout southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky. As we move forward together, we continue to deliver quality programming that is not only safe, but meaningful to our Scouts, leaders, families, volunteers, donors, staff and everyone involved.

When stay-at-home restrictions began last year, we pivoted to allow our Scouts the ability to continue their Scouting activities with their Packs and Troops through virtual and hybrid programming. We acted quickly to create a Scouting at Home virtual programming series which included 30-Day activity sheets, a virtual Merit Badge Challenge, a Campsite at Home contest, and virtual merit badges that saw Scouts learning cooking merit badges in their very own kitchen. Overall, we created over 80 Scouting activity videos that had over 80,000 views. Dan Beard Council was also a national leader in developing virtual programs that are being used by tens of thousands of volunteer leaders across our country, paving the path for Scouts nation-wide to participate safely in Scouting activities from the safety of their homes.

Our local leadership is committed to delivering the safest, highest quality Scouting programs for our youth. Local youth from neighborhoods all across our community are actively learning through a Scouting program that instills core values and leadership skills. 

Our Scouting families are the backbone of our organization. Each year, we share the excitement of welcoming new families into Scouting in our region and continue to offer expanded programs to better serve the entire family. Parents are looking for a place where they can enhance the family dynamic, participate together, and reinforce the values, ethics, and life skills they want for their children – Scouting makes it happen! As we strengthen families, we also strengthen the foundation of success for our youth.

Dan Beard Council is also incredibly proud of our commitment to diversity and inclusion. From our Board of Directors, to our membership, we ensure that our programs reflect the rich diversity of our region through our outreach programs. In addition, we pave the way to make sure that every child has an opportunity to become a Scout. Just this past year, over 900 young women participated in our programs, many of whom are now able to follow in the multi-generational footprints of their brothers, fathers and grandfathers.

Throughout 2020, our local Scouts continued to make a difference in our local communities. Last year alone, Scouts logged nearly 100,000 hours of community service on projects right here in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Dan Beard Council proudly welcomed 283 Scouts who achieved the Eagle Scout rank in 2020, leading service projects such as constructing outdoor classrooms, installing handicap ramps, and organizing coat drives in their communities. While today’s Scouting program has evolved to include everything from architecture, electronics, and engineering to public health, citizenship, and American cultures, doing a good deed and doing the right thing for others remains at our core.

When you look at the impact that Scouting has in our community, it’s easy to see that Scouting simply works. Each year, Scouting provides our youth with safe programs, leadership development training and activities that bring families together. Scouting prepares youth for life in today’s world. This report takes a moment to highlight just a few of the ways that Scouting continues to impact our local youth, local families, and our community as a whole. We hope that you will join us in helping to prepare our local youth for life and to develop the community’s leaders of tomorrow.
