The 2014 Peterloon Midway will be home to many exciting guests this year. Here are some highlights from planned exhibits (subject to change):
Midwest Best BBQ & Creamery
Tim and Nicole are dishing up the best BBQ Brisket, Pulled Pork, Slaw, Chips and Turkey Wraps this side of Camp Friedlander. GOOD EATING! (Prices as posted)
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
What campout is complete without them. Be sure to bring some for your troop and if you’re an early bird on Sunday morning you may get some free doughnuts at the Krispy Kreme motorhome near the bus turnaround. (Subject to confirmation)
Graeters Ice Cream
Best treat of the season. Stop by the Graeters truck for a snack. (Prices posted at site).
Gold Star Chili
Greater Cincinnati is Chilitown USA, and Cincinnati-style Chili is its official hometown dish. Here in Chilitown, the history, tradition and appreciation of Cincinnati-style Chili would not be what it is today without Gold Star Chili. PETERLOON would not be the same either! (Prices as posted). The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)
Scouts, this is important stuff… learn more about the Asian Longhorned Beetle and other invasive insects. U.S.D.A representatives will be on hand to talk about these and other bad bugs and give out some cool merchandise when you stop by! CHECK OUT THE TREE CLIMBING DEMONSTRATION! (stay tuned for the location).
Chessearth and Cincinnati Chess Club
Do you play CHESS? Want to learn? Here’s your chance at PETERLOON. Join the 4-round chess tournament. You can even “play the Master” in a tournament! Get connected to Cincinnati Scholastic Chess and even purchase chess boards and accessories at the Club’s exhibit.
Cincinnati Observatory – FRIDAY NIGHT ONLY!
The waning gibbous Moon will rise about 9:30pm over PETERLOON in a spectacular late-night sight! View the stars and the sky through a variety of telescopes and learn how they work. More details to follow! Keep this event in your scope for Friday night!
West Chester Medical – UC Health
Thinking about a medical career? Stop by the 3 booths courtesy of UC Health - WCH and learn about the Operating Room, Inpatient Nursing, and the Emergency Department. You’ll get an overview of the department, how it operates, who works there, and what education is necessary to pursue each particular career path. That’s not all! There will be fun activity at each booth so you can “learn by doing”..
Meridian Bioscience is a fully integrated life science company that manufactures, markets and distributes a broad range of innovative diagnostic test kits, purified reagents and biopharmaceutical enabling technologies that help deliver answers. While you’re visiting and learning about that cool stuff, work with a real 3-D printer and actually test for the flu!
Roads Rivers and Trails
Stop by RRT and play “Are You Smarter Than A Boy Scout?” The adventure seekers at RRT will challenge your trail knowledge and give away some great stuff! Roads Rivers and Trails can supply every need for your adventurous soul. RRT also offers kayak demos, pack shakedowns, gear lists and planning along with seminars and classes year round. A local outfitter located in Milford.
Benchmark Outdoor Outfitters
Test your scout knowledge of some high-tech gear and maybe win some great stuff for your troop! Benchmark Outfitters has been a local Cincinnati backpacking, climbing, paddle and travel shop since 1974. Benchmark is located in Blue Ash.
COSI - Columbus, Ohio’s Center of Science and Industry
COSI has supported science education since 1964 with pioneering and award-winning programming for teachers and students. Visit the COSI exhibit for some fun!
Gorman Heritage Farm
FEED THE PIG! Play Feed The Pig Bean bag toss and win some cool prizes and get discounts to the farm. Lots of prizes, so stop by and play. You can see the farm from the Scout Achievement Center!
American Red Cross
This is your opportunity to see and tour the Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle. Test your ability and knowledge of survival during a disaster. Who said you can’t take it with you? You just can’t take everything. See if you can choose the right supplies when needed to save your family!
Enjoy the exhilaration of rock climbing in a sport that is getting interest worldwide! Located in the northern Cincinnati suburb of Sharonville, you are just a stone’s throw away from seeing what indoor climbing is all about. You don’t have to be an athlete, you just need a desire to try something new and different. Don’t worry, we’ll be sure you are prepared to climb at your ability level. There has never been a better alternative to the “workout gym” until now! Check out our display in the Midway!
Air Camp is an adventure in flight for middle school students, which takes place at the birthplace of aviation – Dayton, Ohio. At the Air Camp booth, laptop computers with RC model simulations/controller will have Scouts experience flight simulations. Air Camp goal is to entice middle school students to stay in STEM oriented classes that lead to technical degrees / career fields where innovation drives technical knowledge/skills/workforce of the future.
The United States Coast Guard Auxilliary
Stop by the USCGA’s exhibit at PETERLOON. Too much cool stuff to mention. Take the Hypothermia test and other cool stuff. Put this on your list to do. The USCGA will also have fun activities in the Action Center too.
Aviation Exploring Post 78 at Sporty’s Pilot Shop
Have you ever wanted to fly or learn more about aviation? Check out Aviation Exploring Post 78’s display. Make you own cool glider and find out what you’re missing! This is fun stuff.
Alpha Phi Omega
Alpha Phi Omega (ΑΦΩ) is a National co-ed service fraternity organized to provide community service, leadership development, and social opportunities for college students. The purpose of the fraternity is "to assemble college students in a National Service Fraternity in the fellowship of principles derived from the Scout Oath and Scout Law of the Boy Scouts of America; to develop Leadership, to promote Friendship, and to provide Service to humanity; and to further the freedom that is our national, educational, and intellectual heritage." Unlike many other fraternities, APO's primary focus is to provide volunteer service within four areas: service to the community, service to the campus, service to the fraternity, and service to the nation.

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
NYLT is our council’s premier leadership program for Scouts and Venturers! NYLT centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what he must KNOW, and what he must DO. The key elements are taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership. Through a wide range of activities, games, and adventures, participants will work and play together as they put into action the best Scouting has to offer.
Wood Badge is the ultimate leadership-training program for the adult leaders of the Boy Scouts of America. Similar courses on the corporate side cost thousands of dollars per attendee and may not offer the same depth. Wood Badge is a modern format of training that delivers the latest in 12 leadership skills that will help you be the best leader possible. These are skills that will become part of your everyday life. You will use these skills at home, church, and anywhere leadership is needed. The course provides the highest quality program with an experienced staff to a diverse audience. We promise you friendship, camaraderie, knowledge, personal awareness, and most of all fun, and its open to any adult leader!
National Eagle Scout Association
Do you know Kim? Are you mentally tougher than a Boy Scout? Test your teamwork skills at the NESA booth. What is NESA? The National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) is an alumni association for Eagle Scouts of all ages. Members receive a membership packet and four issues of Eagles’ Call magazine each year. NESA membership fees help fund the NESA scholarship program, which awards over 200 scholarships to Eagle Scouts each year. Membership is a great way for alumni to stay in touch with fellow Eagle Scouts around the world and mentor the next generation of Scouts who aspire to reach Scouting’s highest rank.
Merit Badge Challenge
Merit Badge Challenge is available to all registered Boy Scouts. This popular event improves advancement for all attending troops/crews and provides our youth the opportunity to explore vocations and new hobbies. Each Scout has the opportunity to earn up to three merit badges. Merit badges usually offered at summer camp are excluded from this event. The meeting dates at the four schools differ with each on location. Stop by the MBC display to learn more!
Order of the Arrow
For more than 95 years, the Order of the Arrow (OA) has recognized Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. This recognition provides encouragement for others to live these ideals as well. Arrowmen are known for maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting year-round and long-term resident camping, developing leaders, and providing cheerful service to others. OA service, activities, adventures, and training for youth and adults are models of quality leadership development and programming that enrich, support, and help to extend Scouting to America's youth.
